Description
The Exercise and Movement module of this short course explores the evidence showing how exercise can improve abstinence, mental health (depression, anxiety) and other outcomes in people with substance use disorders. The module also discusses putative underlying mechanisms including neurobiological and cardiorespiratory changes. In addition, the unique challenges that may occur in conducting exercise and exercise testing in this population are discussed. The module concludes with suggestions for future research and advocacy efforts aimed at better supporting this population through traditional exercise and other movement-based interventions.
