PS ROTA-R June 2023 Webinar Series: Session 2

This webinar will provide an overview on the impact of stimulant use on non-metropolitan rural communities. The session will begin with a description of the scope of stimulant use with an emphasis on the prevalence in rural settings. The acute and chronic mental health and physical health consequences of stimulant use will be reviewed, including information on the impact of stimulant use on memory and cognition. The presentation will then shift focus to a discussion on how to implement effective behavioral treatment interventions and recovery supports for people who have a stimulant use disorder, and strategies for overcoming barriers to accessing treatment in rural areas. Time will be made available for group discussion and Q&A.

Objectives:

1. Identify three (3) specific patterns and trends in stimulant use in rural communities.
2. Recall at least three (3) acute and chronic physical and psychological effects of stimulant use.
3. Explain at least two (2) specific behavioral treatment interventions and recovery approaches that have been proven to be effective in treating people with a stimulant use disorder.
